YARN AND YIELD
When Helen and her husband purchased a property in West Woombye, they intended to use it for community benefit. People kept asking what community benefit meant, and we did not have the answer. That intent has now been seeded into Yarn and Yield. We will sell the land to a Community Land Trust (CLT), securing it for future generations. In time, we hope to invite other landowners to sell their land to the CLT, building an ecosystem of landholdings in local communities across Australia.
What is Yarn & Yield?
Yarn and Yield is a community-led cooperative and community land trust that weaves together people, ideas, capital, knowledge and place. We act as an intermediary, bridging the gaps that keep good intentions from becoming living, thriving and regenerative enterprises.
Whether it’s nurturing a small regenerative farm, turning local waste streams into circular resources or creating community spaces for care and connection, Yarn and Yield brings the pieces together so ideas can root deeply and flourish.
Yarn and Yield exists to help communities reclaim what’s been lost – agency over how we live, produce and belong.
At the heart of Yarn & Yield is a simple and radical idea: the land should belong to the community, and the community should belong to the land.
Through a community land trust, the land is protected, keeping it in collective care so it can never be lost to speculation or short-term gain. The cooperative model ensures everyone who contributes, with knowledge, labour, skills, or capital, has a real stake and a voice. Decisions are made together. Surpluses are shared and not extracted.
